Survival ― 生き残るために ―

大恐慌以降、最大の経済危機であった2008年9月のリーマン・ショックから約3年が経過した。規模の大小に関わらず、企業は生き残りを模索し、人員削減、資産の売却、手元流動性の確保に努めた。
ショック後、「ニューノーマル」と呼ばれる新しい秩序の中で、生き残ったベンチャーの姿はどのようなものであろうか。創業者やCEOはどのように危機を乗り切ったのであろうか。また、その生き残り戦略を持続可能な中長期的な戦略として維持するにはどのような方策を練ればよいのか。
米国を中心に経営学者が生き残ったベンチャーを分析・研究した論文も20を数えるようになり、それらの論点も組織・人事戦略、リーダーシップ、資金調達、出口戦略と多岐に渡る。
また、中国やインドといった比較的ショックから早く立ち直った国の事例も少数ではあるが研究されている。次回その要点を筆者の見解も交えながらご紹介することとしよう。

Three years have passed since Lehman Shock, supposedly the worst economic crisis since The Great Depression. Regardless their sizes, corporations sought ways to survive and took on downsizing, asset sale and securing liquidity
This article illustrates new looks of surviving start-ups in “New Normal”, a paradigm emerged after the shock. How did founders and CEOs survive the crisis? How can they sustain the strategies which steered them away from the crisis?
More than twenty papers, the majority of which are from the United States, have been published on the subject, and discussed a variety of issues such as organization/HR strategies, leadership, financing and exit strategies.
A few reported case studies from regions such as India and China, where the impact of the crisis was relatively insignificant. This article describes their findings as well as author’s personal perspectives.
